Let the child learn the way they want

Many parents are fed up of frequent complaints about their child’s academic performance. They are worried about the kid’s future. But just put a pause to those thoughts and think the child’s way. Each child learns in a different way.Why are they then forced to learn a standard learning technique?
Going by the real world statistics, there are three important learning styles - visual, audio and kinesthetic.
  • Visual style involves seeing and reading. Visual learners prefer graphs, pictures and diagrams. They look for visual representations of information. Flashcards, diagrams and pictures will enhance visual learning. Visual learners benefit from taking notes, designing diagrams and drawing pictures to represent concepts.
  • Audio style includes listening and speaking. These learners listen to the spoken word of others, of sounds and noises. An audio learner learns best by hearing sound clips, recordings and music. Listening to recordings of lectures, asking questions in class and reading aloud are ways by which audio learners can enhance their leaning.
  • Kinesthetic style involves touching and doing. This includes a need to move and to have physical experience- touching, feeling, holding, doing and practical hands-on experiences. Incorporating activity into studying and learning enhances kinesthetic learning. Kinesthetic learners can take notes, ask questions and use role-play to improve their learning.
Many questionnaires are available online to identify the specific learning style of a child. Once the child is identified with a particular learning style, he/she must be encouraged on those lines to have excellent result. The schools should also incorporate these styles of learning in classroom. We, as parents, should understand the child and help them win over their learning hurdles!
